My name Niki Harré and I am a professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland. Many of you will already know me as I’ve been attending services since December last year.
This year I am intending to offer my own ceremonies, services and personal conversations as a “secular priest”. I hope to discover if, and how, it is possible to introduce the blend of love, duty, ritual and care for all that underpins religious practice into secular contexts; and how this may help people live their deepest values and orient to the common good. Further details on the project can be found here.
As part of this project, I will be conducting an ethnography of the Rhythms of Grace church. The project is called Learning from a Christian church. It will involve me participating as a member of Rhythms of Grace until March 2022, and observing and reflecting on my experience.
If you don’t want me to make any observations or reflections that concern you or your children, please let me or Mark know. You don’t have to give a reason.
You can find a video of me discussing this project here.
If you have any questions feel free to email or call me. My email is n.harre@auckland.ac.nz and my phone number is 021 027 96822.
Thank you for your warm hospitality – I’ve felt very welcomed at Rhythms of Grace and learnt a lot already.
